Construction companies hope for state investments
2009 budget contains 400 million EUR for the infrastructure sector.
Managers of construction companies shouldn’t use the world economic crisis as an excuse to fire their employees, because there will be plenty of work for the construction in Macedonia in 2009, says the Macedonian construction Syndicate.
The president of the Syndicate, Pavel Trendafilof claims that there is a big argument about his message, considering the fact that 2009 budget contains 400 million EUR for the infrastructure, so there will be many construction activities. He also said that unlike the domestic market, consequences of the financial crisis can’t be predicted for the foreign market.
Construction association says that they don’t have information about the reduced number of employees in the construction companies as a result of the crisis. They also claim that the transformation of the companies caused the lay-offs and sent people on a forced vacation. Association expect that domestic construction companies will improve their activities next year, only if there are financial assets for capital investments. This could be the single solution for the crisis and even 32 more sectors could gain better results.
Statistics say that Macedonian construction operative in the first ten months in 2008 accomplished less construction activities in the foreign countries compared to the same period last year. Reduced activities are result of the reduced construction work in Croatia, Serbia, Russia and Ukraine, unlike other countries which have increased volume of construction work, like Albania 125,5% and Bulgaria 165%.
Total amount of construction activities in foreign countries for 2008 is 4.872.640.000 denars, which is 2,4% more than the same period last year.
Statistics show that construction is one of the four sectors, which contributed the most for the increased number of the employees in the third quarter in 2008. Macedonia has 8.000 construction companies with 40.000 employees.
